VIEWS
We are blessed to have amazing views throughout the Bakpackers. From the first floor veranda you look onto the Boneyards section of the point, as well as outside Super’s to the left and Magnatubes to the right. From the upper balcony and lounge you have sweeping views of the bay and the stunning Afican Sunrises are magic if you are an early bird. Almost daily we see dolphins from the balcony, and in July-November there are loads of migrating whales in the bay.
ROOMS, KITCHEN & GARDEN
ROOMS
The backpackers sleeps 30 people when full, so we are able to maintain a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. There are 2 double rooms and one sea view double room, 1 six sleeper mini-dorm and a 10 sleeper dorm. All linen is provided.
KITCHEN
Everyday the famous Ubuntu Free Breakfast is available from 8am until 10.00am to get you going! Most nights we cook a large, traditional African meal, and we invite our guests to experience some of South Africa’s many delicious local flavors. Our fully-equipped, modern kitchen is also for the use of all our guests who wish to prepare their own food during their stay. We have a range of cold-drinks, bottled water and snacks available throughout the day.
GARDEN
Our spacious garden is a beautiful place to unwind in, lounging in the hammocks under our traditional Xhosa-style ‘boma’, sun-baking amidst the tropical plants,or sharing tales with other travelers. The garden is set in a zen-style, and has a mix of sub-tropical plants and a wide variety of cacti, aloes and lots of indigenous vegetation. We also love getting our ‘grow’ on and have blue-berry bushes, chill bushes and an array of herbs and other small produce that are used in our evening meals. There is a small camping area that comfortably accommodates around three tents.

UPSTAIRS
LOUNGE & BALCONY
At the top of the house we have a beautiful lounge and entertainment area that overlooks the waves and beachfront. There is a pool table, ping pong tennis, flatscreen TV showing all-day surf-movies and plenty of couches to relax on and soak up the views from our awesome balcony.
You have one of the best views this side of town and you will be able to watch the waves, whales, dolphins doing their thing… with a beer in hand of course!

LOUNGE & BALCONY
When you’re not surfing there is plenty to do inside African Ubuntu. In our comfy games room there is a collection of dvd’s that can be watched free of charge anytime on the TV. For comfort there are loads of couches, beanbags, pillows, hanging hammocks and mattresses. Outside the sliding doors is a spacious covered balcony, great for reading or just hanging about on the swing-chair.
AMENITIES
Within a 5 minute radius you can find just about everything you need. A large supermarket, several surf shops, board shapers, pharmacy and some quaint cafes and restaurants. There are also internet cafes nearby, but you don’t need that if you stay with us, its free in the backpackers!
African Ubuntu is situated in the heart of South African surf-country, Jeffrey’s Bay, and caters to fun-loving people looking for an epic yet affordable base. Its a mere 100m to the beach & magical Supertubes, and there are great wave-views from around the house. Whether your dream be flying down the line in perrrfect surf at the point, watching lions on a game drive, or simply collecting seashells on our dolphin-rich coast, we aim to turn your dreams into treasured memories.

I absolutely loved this place. The staff made us feel at home as soon as we got there, the room was clean and comfy, there’s free breakfast for everyone and it is located right next to the beach. We were meant to stay there a night or two, we ended up staying for the week (plus, you get the seventh night for free!). We’ll be back 🙂
From the first minute on I felt like home, that was the reason why I ended up from checking in for two days extending to one week. It has a nice garden area where we used to chill out after the surf sessions and next door is Amo’s coffee shop, where I got my coffee every morning. I will definitely go back there!
I stayed almost 10 days, I had a great time. Nice and friendly people, good location – especially during the evening it was awesome just to sit outside, have some beers and watch the ocean. I l’ll be Back!
